The Perfect Lob with Jake B. Martin

Nothing is a more sincere form of flattery than Instagram stalking right? Well that’s what I did to Jake B. Martin – the man who can cut and style the most perfectly unkempt, flawless hair. You know that effortless/ I woke up like this hair that you instantly double tap on Instagram or save on Pinterest? That is the work of Jake B. Martin.

After obsessively liking and commenting on basically all of Jake’s pictures, he asked to cut my hair. My jaw dropped and I immediately replied YES in all caps.

A few weeks later, my friend and photographer Michelle (I had to have her capture this moment) went to Seattle to finally meet the man behind the infamous textured wave. After a quick “hi we know each other from Instagram” introduction (a custom I’ve become very used to), Jake began bringing life and style back to my hair.

From the moment I sat in the chair, I knew this was not just going to be a great haircut but also one that was unique and stylish. As a fashion blogger, I always look for hair stylists that are up to date on the latest fashion and beauty trends. When Jake mentioned he finds inspiration from runway fashion and iconic supermodel Kate Moss, I knew I was in good hands.

While I’m usually anxious to give a hair stylist full control, I actually found myself wanting to give Jake creative freedom.  His eye for style, knowledge of hair, and an insane attention to detail made me excited to see what he could create with a pair of scissors, a little product, and some hot tools.

Let the tousled waves begin…obviously this was my favorite part. Jake is all about that effortless, “lived in” hair as he calls it. Now while I definitely didn’t pick up all his tricks, the one I do remember is to straighten the ends of your curls. Removing that perfect spiral at the ends, gives your hair that easy going, more natural look.

Now to shake out the curls and give the hair the signature Jake B. Martin effortless style.

Needless to say, I’m obsessed with the way my hair turned out.

 

After 24 years of haircuts, I can honestly say this is the best haircut and style I’ve ever experienced. On top of that, I truly enjoyed the time I spent with Jake. He is so talented and it’s something you can instantly feel as you sit down in his chair.

Jake B. Martin might think he is only providing a cut and style but what he’s actually giving is confidence and inspiration.
