Each holiday season, we get an invitation for the ugly sweater Christmas party. Personally, I think the term “ugly” is quite subjective; I prefer “extra festive.” You can purchase a cookie cutter Christmas sweater online or you can create a one of a kind, couture Christmas sweater. For my DIY Christmas sweater, I ransacked my local Value Village for materials to make a personalized, extra festive, couture, Christmas sweater.
I love crafting and DIY projects so I’m no stranger to thrift stores. Value Village is a great place to find clothing for a deal, but also inexpensive materials. When visiting a thrift store, you have to think out of the box and see what items can be recreated or crafted into.
(Left to right) The sparkly tank top served as the face of the reindeer and the glittered stocking was perfect for the reindeer’s nose. The brown table runner became the reindeer’s snout and ears. I cut the white fur from the bottom of the Santa hats for the trim on the sweater.
This hilarious hat gave me the perfect reindeer antlers and these basic tank tops became the reindeer’s eyes and eyelashes.
The rest of the reindeer came together with a little imagination and a lot of hot glue!
Bailey, this is amazing! I love it! I would definitely wear this festive sweater :) Happy holidays!
